A japa counter that works like a mala
Japa is the practice of repeating a mantra, traditionally on a mala of 108 beads. If your mala isn't with you, or you keep losing your place, this online japa counter holds the count. Each tap lights one bead, and the screen stays out of your way.
Use it as a mantra counter, a mala counter or a naam jap counter. It counts any mantra, in any language, and there is nothing to sign up for. Or press play and chant Om along with the voice, and it counts each Om for you.
How to count your japa
- Sit somewhere quiet and choose your mantra.
- Choose a round: 11, 21, 54 or 108.
- Chant once, tap once. Let it be slow. Steadiness matters more than the number.
- When the round is done, stop for a moment before you start the next one.
Japa with Mahakatha
The voices on this page are from Mahakatha, which has made original devotional mantra recordings since 2011. The Mahakatha Mantra Library holds the words and meaning of each one, including Om Gam Ganapataye, the Gayatri mantras and the Shiva mantras. The Mahakatha app has japa chanted along with you, as well as guided sittings. Once you know the rhythm, come back here and count on your own.
